Program Leaders

Yard Owl Craft Brewery Gardiner, NY
James and Michelle Walsh combined their shared excitement for the restaurant business seventeen years ago and opened Mudd Puddle Café in New Paltz, NY. Fresh roasted coffee, hand crafted food, and a warm community space has been the focus since day one. In 2012, they expanded their passion for fine crafted beverages and food by opening Yard Owl Brewery in Gardiner, NY. Here, the team comes together to brew and serve expressive Belgian inspired ales. The beer is paired with house made pickled vegetables and eggs and beer mustards that are served with cheese, charcuterie and pretzels. This venue has enabled them to create a second community space and expand their creativity into another area of the food and craft beverage world.

Ryan Cronin
Since the early 1990s, Ryan has been approaching his practice from a place of inclusivity and cultural awareness. Engaging in a dialogue surrounding the accessibility of art, Ryan expands on the legacies of Robert Indiana, Philip Guston and David Hockney. With his distinctive signature style and a desire to assimilate icons from his New York community into a visual vocabulary, Ryan draws upon street signs and cultural markers as sources of inspiration. As a painter, sculptor, muralist and product designer he appropriates text and figures from his surroundings to reconfigure the world through art. When Cronin is not in the studio he is on the lacrosse field coaching. Cronin recently completed a month-long residency at Thread Artist Residency and Cultural Center in Senegal, West Africa through the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation and is currently working on a body of work based upon his experience there.

Jonah Smith
Jonah Smith is a critically acclaimed American artist. He has released several records and has performed around the world at places like Bonnaroo, BAM Festival in Barcelona, The Bowery Ballroom in NYC, Ronnie Scotts in London, SXSW, and countless others. He was a semi-finalist on America’s Got Talent, where he received a standing ovation from Howard Stern. He went on to perform four times on national television from Radio City Music Hall wowing the judges and audiences with his big soulful voice and considerable keyboard chops. Smith has had the pleasure of recording and performing with several of his influences over the years including Garth Hudson (of the Band), Bill Frisell, Los Lobos, Little Feat, Taj Mahal, Martin Sexton and others. His 2016 record, Easy Prey featured guests like Ruthie Foster, Lucius and David Hidalgo.
