As a Day Guest, explore miles of wooded forest and mountain vistas by horseback or carriage. Our experienced staff and friendly, well-trained horses will guide you on an unforgettable journey across our historic property.
Our iconic Stables was built in 1888 and is one of the largest barns in the northeastern United States. Until the mid-20th century, the Stables housed more than 120 horses belonging to the Mountain House, and guests who traveled from their homes by horse and buggy for the summer season on our mountaintop.
Today, our Stables house six saddle horses and a team of draft mules who pull our carriage.

An Equestrian History
Horses have been an integral part of Mohonk since our founding in 1869. During Mohonk’s early years, horses were the sole means of transportation for guests, baggage, and freight. Visitors arrived in their own horse-drawn buggies or were picked up at train stations by Mohonk carriages. Today, Mohonk horses serve recreational purposes only. In winter, the horses are turned out on a 30-acre pasture at Chapel Farm, free to enjoy a season of rest and relaxation.
