Mohonk Mountain House has always placed a high importance on preserving the natural world. When developing the spa wing, we wanted to bring the outside in to celebrate our stunning natural surroundings. Our 30,000-square-foot facility incorporates nature into all aspects of architecture, design, and decoration.
Wherever you look, the details are reminiscent of the surrounding forest. Exposed wooden beams hewn from trees from the local area, over 200 expansive windows, stone fireplaces, and carpet custom-designed to mimic the Mohonk Lily Pond create a peaceful atmosphere. For more information about eco-friendly efforts at Mohonk Mountain House please visit our environmental stewardship page.
We carefully selected only the finest natural materials including Shawangunk stone, local timber, and cedar shingles, all surrounded by native foliage. This creates a sense of "bringing the outside in." The Spa at Mohonk Mountain House was carved into a natural glacier-formed stone bluff overlooking pristine Lake Mohonk. Six hundred tons of quartz conglomerate stone excavated from the site were recycled into stone walls, fireplaces, and retaining walls throughout the Spa.
We have also installed a 2,000 square-foot green roof/garden terrace that features an eight-inch-deep planting bed in which shade plants are cultivated. The green roof cuts summer cool-ing costs by 20-30%, filters air, provides acoustical insulation, reduces rain runoff, and supplies a habitat for birds and butterflies. The roof also is available for guests’ relaxation, meditation, and yoga.
Our skin care and body care lines are by Éminence, an organic line from Hungary using herbs, fruits, and vegetables, hand-selected to guarantee their highest quality. These and our own private label products are available in the spa lobby. OM4 (Organic Male 4) used in the Gentlemen’s facial is also available for sale.
