We are proud to partner with Jane’s Ice Cream, a Hudson Valley-based, family-run creamery to create a signature ice cream flavor for our 150th anniversary, “Mohonk Mountain Crunch”! This flavor is made from only the finest natural and local ingredients, with no artificial flavors or colors. Mohonk Mountain Crunch features a rich vanilla base, chocolate-covered pretzels, dark chocolate fudge, and a salted caramel swirl.
Jane’s Ice Cream started in the 1980’s when Jane, a chef, could not find a job when she moved to New York. She decided to open a little shop with her sister Amy which originally started out as a luncheonette which served homemade ice cream. The ice cream business was not new to the family, however, since both Jane’s father and grandfather were involved in making and distributing ice cream. The little luncheonette that Jane and Amy opened quickly evolved into a wholesale ice cream business that was able to stand on its own.
Jane’s Ice Cream has been around as a family run business for three generations. Jane, Amy, and their sisters grew up in a household were family was always put first. Their family was always close and enjoyed working together. They have hired employees outside their family, who through working in this business have also become family. Through their hard work and dedication of creating an authentic product, they created a relationship with Mohonk. “Mohonk has always been close to our hearts when we moved to the Hudson Valley 35 years ago. It’s a special place in the Hudson Valley and they have grown in a great way, ” Amy Keller, owner and operator of Jane’s Ice Cream.
Jane’s Ice Cream is known for its texture and flavor intensity, evident in one of their most popular flavors, “Killer Chocolate”. Their coffee ice cream uses a very full bodied roast which is why the flavor is so potent and loved by many. Despite the business growing in size, the family was determined to maintain the high quality of ice cream they serve by keeping the business local and distributing it themselves. They use New York State hormone-free milk in all of their ice creams, and get as much of the fruit and baked goods they use from local Hudson Valley businesses.
Every year, Jane’s Ice Cream releases new flavors to keep customers interested. Some new flavors they have for this summer are “The Insta Graham”, German Chocolate Cake, and Vaulted Malted, in addition to Mohonk Mountain Crunch.
Jane’s Ice Cream and Mohonk Mountain House have developed a great relationship over the years, both being family run businesses from the Hudson Valley for generations. Jane’s employees come to Mohonk for a retreat, and Mohonk is proud to serve Jane’s Ice Cream.
