Our program features a variety of guided hikes and guided gravel rides for all levels.
For over 150 years, hikers have gathered on our mountaintop. We’ve added guided gravel bike rides to the program so you can experience Mohonk’s tremendous natural beauty in a whole new way. Our world-class variety of trails, carriage roads, and rock scrambles not only welcome hikers but also bikers to explore the remarkable gravel network throughout a spectacular 40,000-acre wilderness region that includes both Mohonk Mountain House and Mohonk Preserve lands. Traverse mature forests, sweeping cliffs, and mountain streams out on some of the best trails and gravel roads you’ll ever find. Then kick back indoors and enjoy afternoon tea and cookies, sumptuous meals, and captivating evening entertainment—all included in your overnight rate. Be sure to visit our award-winning spa—the perfect way to rejuvenate after you cap off a day of hiking and biking the mountain. Whether you seek a challenge or relaxation, like-minded companions will be alongside you to experience the beauty of our iconic property.

Hiker’s and Biker’s Holiday Welcome Reception

Meet fellow hiking and gravel biking enthusiasts as our weekend leaders guide us through the schedule events, while learning the legacy of the Mountain House and surrounding lands.
Around Lake Mohonk
5pm
(1 mile/45 Minutes) Take in the beauty of Lake Mohonk as our hike leaders give us a layout of the immediate property. Leisurely.
Campfire, Marshmallows, & Music
9pm
Join local musicians “Beyond the Ridge” for an evening of family fun and songs by the campfire while roasting a delicious marshmallow treat!
Live Music with Wind & Stone
9pm
Enjoy the intimate setting of our Carriage Lounge with a cocktail and smooth sound from one of Mohonk’s favorite duos, Wind & Stone.
Lights on Bikes
9pm
(8 – 10 miles/ 45 minutes – 1 hour) Join Mohonk’s Endurance Concierge Alex Sherwood for a night exploration on gravel bikes – make sure to bring your lights to see the Shawangunk Ridge at night. This will be a casual evening ride, exploring some of the carriage roads closest to the Mountain House. Note: Lights will be provided.
Lights on Hikes
9pm
(1 mile/1 hour) Enjoy the beautiful evening mountain air on this casual hike to Cope’s Lookout. We will be watching and listening for sights and sounds of the night: stars, planets, satellites, owls, coyotes, whippoorwills, and more. Note: Lights will be provided.
SATURDAY, JUNE 3

A Trapps Exploration and Waterfall View
9am – 12pm
(20 – 24 miles/ 2.5 hours) Michael Newman, owner of the Bicycle Depot will lead the morning ride. Following morning coffee and breakfast, Join Mike for a ride along of some of the most historic carriage roads in the Gunks. This ride will head south west towards Lake Minnewaska to Awosting Falls and other sites. This was once a historic connector between the Mohonk Mountain House and the Cliff House at Lake Minnewaska.
A Trapps Exploration to Trapps Bridge
9am – 12pm
(6 miles/ 3 hours) This hike will certainly offer some majestic views of the Catskill Mountains as we will be hiking to some of the best viewpoints of the Mountain House and Mohonk Preserve. This hike will start with some beautiful sweeping views of the Catskill Mountains, as we will be making our way towards the Clove Valley side of the Shawangunk Ridge. As we make our way towards Trapps Bridge, we will get a view of the Clove Valley and the Catskills. We will then take in the views of Trapps Bridge (replaced in 2017) and make our way back to the Mountain House while catching a glimpse of rock climbers and the whole Trapps cliff.

Northern Preserve and Bonticou Vista
2:30pm – 4:30pm
(15 – 18 miles / 2 hours) Alex Sherwood returns to lead our group of gravel riders to the end of the Mohonk Preserve via some of the most exciting and picturesque carriage roads in the Northern Shawangunks. This ride will visit some more of the historical locations on the property with a culminating view of the Bonticou Crag.
North Lookout Hikeout
2:30pm – 5pm
(3 miles / 2.5 hours) This moderate hike will take us to one of the best views on the ridge. The stunning views of the Northern Mohonk Preserve lands and of the mighty Catskill Mountains. This hike will lead us through the Mountain House and Mohonk Preserves majestic property via carriage roads and on some of the best hiking trails, this area has to offer.
Fireside Beers and Games with Yard Owl Brewery
5pm – 6pm
James and Joe from Yard Owl Brewery join our hikers and bikers to welcome in a gratified summer evening with beer, games, and fireside fun.
What? the Band
9pm
What? Is a funk septet hailing out of the Hudson Valley of New York. Drawing influence from the serene landscape of the Catskills that inspired the likes of The Band and Donald Fagan, What? bridges the gap between R&B groove and improvisational jam. What? is known to bring high energy, infectious melodies and soulful grooves with their power-house horn trio each time they grace the stage.
SUNDAY, JUNE 4

‘Check Points and Cheer’ Hike
9am – 12pm
(6 miles/ 3 hours) This hike will take us through the “Dusty Dozen Gravel Ride Challenge” course, as we will be stopping at different points in the course to cheer the biker’s up some of the grueling hill climbs. We will be stopping by three of the 12 hill climbs as we hike our way back to the Mountain House. Our hike will give us a firsthand look at these strenuous hill climbs the riders will be trying to tackle.
The Inaugural Dusty Dozen Gravel Ride Challenge *
10am – 1:30pm
(Approx. 20 miles / 3 hours)
A new climbing adventure in the Shawangunks… except this time on two wheels. This unique challenge will test your Gunks Climbing Prowess! The ride will include twelve of the most challenging climbs on the property. The goal is not to race the entire ride, only the uphill portions of the route. Riders will ride neutral between the climbs, but will then put forth their best effort on the climbing portions. Climbs will range from less than a 1/4 of a mile up to just over 1 mile with some sections reaching over a 12% gradient. This will be an event open to the general public, but those registered overnight guests for Hiker’s and Biker’s weekend will have complimentary entry to this event. This will be a self-timed event with the ride culminating at the Mohonk Granary for a barbeque lunch and post-ride celebration. *Please note: advance registration is required. More details to come.

Mohonk Preserve
In 1963 the Smiley Family helped create what is now known as the Mohonk Preserve, the largest non-profit private nature preserve in New York State. The mission of the Mohonk Preserve is to provide ongoing land protection and stewardship of the outlying lands to “preserve the beauty of the landscape and the integrity of the flora and fauna—with appropriate human use and enjoyment” as well as provide a continuation of conservation science and environmental education. In partnership with members, supporters, and volunteers, the Preserve protects and manages over 8,000 acres of mountain ridges, forests, fields, streams, ponds, and other unique and beautiful places and welcomes over 200,000 visitors annually. At the Preserve, you can enjoy scenic beauty, outdoor activities, and peace and quiet, all just 90 miles from New York City. Carriage roads and trails are perfect for hiking, running, mountain biking, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing.
