For 157 years, Mohonk has been more than a resort destination; it has been a family tradition. As a proudly family-owned resort for multiple generations, we’ve always treated our guests like part of our own family. Over the decades, we’ve welcomed grandparents, parents, and now great-grandparents returning with babies in their arms, creating cherished memories.
Today, we are proud to celebrate what has always been at the heart of Mohonk: family. We’re thrilled to introduce family-friendly fitness, welcoming guests ages 12 and up. Whether you’re relaxing together or exploring new experiences side by side, Mohonk continues to be a place where families gather, grow, and return, generation after generation, year after year.

Interview with Fitness Instructor Jenna Hunt
Jenna Hunt is a Qigong instructor, Feng Shui consultant, and astrologer offering a multi-faceted approach and customized guidance through empowering workshops, consultations, and classes. With a formal dance education and many years as a professional dancer in Chicago and New York City, she has taught ballet, modern dance and creative movement at all levels, and has coached gymnastics and rock climbing
Q: Jenna, thank you for sitting down with us to chat! Your main area of focus for class offerings is Qigong. What led you to Qigong, and how long have you been practicing?
As a retired professional dancer and a Chinese Medicine enthusiast, I felt called to learn Qigong as a logical next step in my career. I’ve been practicing regularly since 2008 but was first introduced to Qigong in the early 2000s. I completed my certification in 2015.
Q: What led you to bring your classes to Mohonk?
I was familiar with New Paltz and the Gunks through rock climbing excursions with friends, traveling up from Brooklyn on the weekends. I had a hunch that my skill set as a movement teacher for 30 years would be a great fit for Mohonk. When I saw the Mountain House for the first time, I was enchanted and excited to begin this journey.
Q: There has been a great response from our guests with the implementation of the Family Fitness classes. Can you talk us through the creation of the classes and your approach to instructing kids in a way that they can connect to the practice?
I’ve taught dance, creative movement, ballet, gymnastics and rock climbing to kids and I really enjoy fostering an interest in whatever they’re learning. I try to play to their strengths while still encouraging them to aim for improvement, focus and FUN. It’s very gratifying to help open their worlds and their minds to new ideas and a creative approach to life. It’s so important to communicate the positive benefits of movement, sports or other fitness and exercise for our physical health and to convey how excellent it can be for our mental/emotional health too.
To engage with the kids and get them interested I explain that Qigong is an ancient practice from China, about 4 or 5 thousand years old. I might say “did you know that Martial Arts people often practice Tai Chi, which is related to Qigong? Like in Karate Kid!” I talk about the 5 Elements, seasonal changes, and the organs of our body. I’ve been interweaving some high energy Qigong to get the heart and the blood pumping, combined with some slower paced exercises to quiet the mind and bring graceful qualities into the practice. In between exercises, I’ll talk about why we’re doing specific movements and how it helps. A core component that I teach is the animal forms known as 5 Animal Frolics.
Both kids and adults enjoy this. There are Bear forms, Deer forms, Owl, Crane, Monday, and Tiger forms It is certain that I’ll discover and share more as I continue the class. So many options! Endless knowledge to learn and integrate! It’s really delightful!
