Within the last few decades, tulip festivals have become more popular attractions. Many will travel hours to see these vibrant fields perfect for an Instagram post. Sources say this historical flower became a national sensation from Dutch immigrants who “took their love of tulips abroad when they settled, and tulips and tulip festivals are now found in New York (originally New Amsterdam) and Holland, Michigan, where the connection to their Dutch roots is very strong.” It even made its mark as far as Canada and the West Coast!
These festivals allow one to lose track of time and wander through a brilliant sea of color from indigo blue to coral pink. Come photograph, paint, or draw! The millions of floral shades blowing in the wind are a spectacular sight! Just as entertaining as the landscape are the creative minds that dazzle onlookers with their pastel paintings and colorful sketches. Sometimes a free concert is included where musicians can set up right in the middle of the field where you can dance amongst the flowers. There is so much to see and do that it makes for the perfect place for children to enjoy the scene as much as the adults.
Annual Tulip Festival
Mohonk Mountain House hosts its annual Tulip Festival from late April to early May! Guests can stroll through the Victorian Show Garden where 20,000 tulips will bloom to celebrate the change of season. Plan a family retreat to stop and smell the tulips at Mohonk!
