Murder at the Speakeasy: Act 1
Famed bootlegger Dutch Schultz has left the heat of Manhattan; he’s made his way to the Hudson Valley where he is about to open swanky Speakeasy, the Abba Dabba Club, at Mohonk Mountain House. Convincing himself, he is free of rival gang leaders, the temperance union, and the law, Dutch offers his guests dancing, dining, and the best moonshine money can buy. The club also offers Dutch’s new flame, Lu Lu, a place to sing her songs. We quickly learn that resident flapper, Rosie, doesn’t like competition. As you enter the club Boyle, a local detective and associate of Dutch’s, who works both sides of the law, will greet you. He’ll give you your password. Needles, the club’s emcee, will take the stage and introduce the entertainers. But before Lu Lu sings her second song, a masked gunman bursts upon the scene and at least one body will fall.
Mohonk’s Speakeasy with a DJ Twist
Although the night is over in the Abba Dabba Club, the party continues downstairs! Sneak a libation from Mohonk’s pop-up bar as Soundsational DJ provides us with the perfect soundtrack for modern dance.

Murder at the Speakeasy: Act 2
In the kitchen of Abba Dabba Club Harry and Flora Dora argue over the menu and the source of the gunshots. They are aware a body has fallen and between the two of them, there are enough gadgets and concoctions to cause more than one murder. No, they do not trust one another. Meanwhile, in the Abba Dabba Club Boyle, Dutch, Rosie, and Needles have all been wounded by the masked gunman’s barrage of bullets. Lu Lu is not on the scene so Rosie assumes the position of the club’s star attraction as the other characters become suspicious of each other. The tension mounts, threats are made, and everyone’s loyalty is tested. As the suspicions grow, Boyle discovers the victim could have been killed any number of ways as more evidence comes out of the kitchen.
First, the bullet that was found near the victim’s body does not match the Tommy Gun the masked gunman fired. More than one glass of moonshine was tainted, possibly by a source traced to Hash House Harry, or possibly the mysterious Flora Dora. But before Boyle can make a connection, shotgun blasts are heard and Dutch’s rival, Big Mo, enters and claims she’s “takin’ over the joint”. As tempers flair, there’s a trumpet blast, and Minnie Cross, a temperance union advocate enters, and claims she’s shutting the club down!
Tabletop Escape Room
Unlike a typical escape room, a tabletop escape room allows multiple teams to participate at the same time. Each table is a “team.” The team that escapes the room first is the “big” winner; however, any team that escapes the room in the allotted time will also be considered a winner. The teams will have to solve a series of riddles, puzzles and challenges to escape the room. All the materials needed to win are provided to them at their table.
Preregistration is required. Please call in advance to sign up; space is limited.
Tea & Cookies with the Suspects
Mohonk’s speakeasy suspects infiltrate our long-standing tradition of tea and cookies.
Murder at the Speakeasy: Act 3
Boyle, who seems determined to solve what he thinks is a murder, claims it was not a stray bullet or poisoned hooch that was responsible for the murder, but a blunt instrument. Since there are many possible instruments of destruction in the kitchen, he focuses on the shenanigans between Hash House Harry and Flora Dora. Will they manage to escape before the heat is turned down? Harry and Flora Dora are wasting time blaming each other. The motives and clues not only surround them but the characters in the Abba Dabba Club as well.
Dutch and Needles both have strong motives. Boyle, who assumes the role of a detective isn’t exactly squeaky clean either. That situation becomes muddier as temperance union advocate Minnie Cross starts playing up to him. You will also witness Dutch referring to a bribe that Boyle accepted. As clues lead to everyone including Needles, Boyle redeems himself by finding out that one of the club’s members left fingerprints on the Masked Gunman’s Tommy Gun, and everyone had a motive.
Mohonk’s Speakeasy with Annie & the Fur Trappers
Annie and the Fur Trappers is a St. Louis traditional jazz band featuring banjo, trombone, trumpet, and a washboard. With their repertoire ranging from traditional jazz, swing, ragtime, and delta blues, it will surely be an evening to enjoy; even amidst the suspects roaming about!
