Join us for our most iconic holiday celebration of the entire year. Delight in festive events and activities throughout the day at our House! Be sure to wear your red, white, and blue and join in the fun!
Listed below are some of the events from the past years.
Mohonk Mountain House is not open to the public on the 4th of July. An overnight reservation is required to join in the 4th of July activities.
The majority of Mohonk’s recreation venues will be operational with physical distancing and cleaning measures in place.
Kids’ Club
Kids’ Club will not be operational this summer as it requires co-mingling of children from various travel parties.
Activities and Evening Entertainment
Activities and Evening Entertainment events will be modified to incorporate physical distancing measures and will be designated at outdoor venues whenever possible and will ensure six-foot distancing between guests’ parties.

Mohonk Scavenger Hunt
Gather a team or participate solo and see if you can be the first to answer the trivia about Mohonk, riddles, and collect items on our grounds. You’ll get to learn a little bit about our beautiful property and have fun along the way.
Cardboard Regatta
Teams will construct boats made of cardboard that will race, carrying members to a point on the lake and back.
Tomahawk Throwing
Join a member of our Recreation staff out on the range for this fun and challenging survival skill that focuses on safety and basic throwing skills.
Ages 13 and up. Space is limited to 19 people. Closed-toe shoes required. All participants must go through a 15 minute safety protocol at the beginning of the session. This cannot be repeated if missed.

Live Music: After Five Jazz Combo
After Five Jazz Combo, directed by saxophonist Jason Clinton, is an energetic group of talented musicians that perform throughout the Hudson Valley. Come listen to the sounds of Jazz, Swing, and even some Rhythm and Blues.
Drive-In Movie
Hop in your car and travel down to our new drive-in movie theatre. Enjoy the nostalgia of days gone by, freshly popped popcorn, and a fun family movie.

Intro to Fishing
Join our expert staff on learning the basics of fishing. Poles and bait will be provided.
Putting Tournament
Putt around our 18-hole putting green for your chance to win the tournament, a Mohonk summer tradition over 120 years old. Win a prize if your team has the lowest score! Up to 4 members per team, ages 4 and up.
Archery
Join member of our Recreation Staff out on the range for hands-on introduction to archery focusing on safety and basic target skills.

Tom Chapin & Friends
In a career that spans five decades, 23 albums, and three Grammy Awards; multi-talented singer/songwriter/guitarist Tom Chapin has covered an incredible amount of creative ground. Chapin joins fellow musicians Michael Mark and Jon Cobert to deliver a performance with infectious songs, sterling musicianship and personal warmth!

Join Richard and John Steffens for a night of fun songs around the campfire. Great family fun with s’more of our favorite gooey treats!
Outdoor Barn Movie
Enjoy the fresh air while watching a family favorite in our historic courtyard. Complimentary popcorn.

Early Morning Canoe Tour
Join Naturalist Michael Ridolfo as we share this magical time on the lake.
Limited to 15 participants. Ages 13 and older. In the case of inclement weather there will be a 2 mile nature hike.

Flight School
Construct a flying object with materials provided from our ‘flight crew.’ Test your object to see if it can survive our course and trial runs.
Selfie Scavenger Hunt
Take great team photos all while finding iconic viewpoints on our grounds.

PVC Road Race
This is a wild team activity based on the idea of building a race car out of PVC pipes and participate in a timed trial. Put on your thinking caps and have some fun!
Jr. Naturalist Hike
A family hike geared toward our ‘younger’ naturalists who love to experience nature with our knowledgeable Recreation staff. Each child will receive a Jr. Naturalist certificate at the end of the hike.

Live Music: Soul City
Come and dance to the sounds of Soul City as they play Motown, R&B, Soul and Disco from the 1960’s to the 80’s! Enjoy hits by the Jackson Five, The Supremes, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, and many more. All ages will have fun listening, dancing and singing along!

Lake Chipping Contest
Fore! Try your hand at chipping floating golf balls out onto our lake and see if you can get your ball to land on the floating targets.
Disc Golf Clinic
Never heard of disc golf? Want to try something new? Come learn the basics about this fun and easy activity while receiving first hand instruction.

The Bernstein Bard Trio has become an acoustic music phenomenon in the Hudson Valley over the last 12 years. They are known for their imaginative arrangements, eclectic repertoire, and infectious grooves.

Red, White, and Blue 5k Walk/Run
Stretch your legs on this fun family event where you can set the time, but we set the distance. Register at the Information Summerhouse on July 4th to receive your race number and suggested route. Race begins and ends at the Information Summerhouse. All participants who complete the race will receive a medal. Don’t forget to dress in red, white, and blue!
Independence Day Craft
Pick up the craft kit of the day, specially themed around July 4th.
July 4th Spirit Bag
Stop by the Information Summerhouse to pick up a 4th of July Spirit Bag. Includes a variety of patriotic swag and small toys to brighten your day.
July 4th Passport
Pick up a passport from the Information Summerhouse and participate in 4 of the 7 listed activities for your chance to win a special viewing from the Boat Dock of this evening’s illumination ceremony for up to 4 people.
Activities include:
- Red, White, and Blue 5k Walk/Run

Corn Hole Challenge
Warm up your arm and get ready to play our corn hole challenge. Up to 4 people per team.
Trumpet Across the Lake
From 1902 until the mid-1950s, bugle calls were performed daily throughout the summer to announce meals and entertainments. We are pleased to recreate this tradition on the Fourth of July with trumpeter Aaron Flagg. Best enjoyed from the East side of the House facing Lake Mohonk.
“The Hudson Seven” Riverboat Marching Band
Clap your hands to the sweet sounds of “The Hudson Seven” as their melodies roll across Lake Mohonk and throughout the property.

Summerhouse Challenge
Track down select Mohonk Summerhouses as you explore our grounds and take pictures along the way.

Putting Tournament

Boat Dock Concert: “The Hudson Seven” Riverboat Band
Take in the beauty of Lake Mohonk and begin the evening festivities with the Riverboat Band, a Hudson Valley based group directed by saxophonist Jason Clinton. Their acoustic and brass melodies will be an incredible kick-off to the Illumination Ceremony.

Illumination Ceremony
As dusk settles, a peaceful reflection of brilliant color glows from rocky ledges to cliff-bound lake. A live musical performance paired with a spectacular fireworks display by Legion Fireworks, this is a unique way to celebrate July 4th. Readings by Tom Smiley and Eric Gullickson.

Tomahawk Throwing
