Evening Movie: ‘The Great Outdoors’

Rated PG. 91 minutes, 1988. It's vacation time for outdoor enthusiast Chet Ripley (John Candy), who heads to a peaceful Wisconsin lakeside cabin with his wife, Connie (Stephanie Faracy), and their two children, Buck (Chris Young) and Ben (Ian Giatti), for a relaxing weekend of fishing. However, their serene getaway is interrupted by the arrival of Connie's irritating brother-in-law, Roman Craig (Dan Aykroyd), and his family, including his wife Kate (Annette Bening) and their two daughters. As the weekend unfolds, tensions rise between the Ripleys and the uptight Craigs, leading to a series of comedic clashes.
