Fly Fishing Adventures for Overnight Guests of Mohonk Mountain House
Fly fishing is the art of fishing using a rod, reel, line, and a lure specifically designed to resemble a fly and its activity. Bert Darrow, author of Bert Darrow's Practical Fly Fishing,
is available for individual
and group fly fishing or fly casting
lessons
for overnight guests.
Bert leads participants through a program on choosing a fly rod, equipment selection, casting, and aquatic entomology. The emphasis of the program is on learning to cast. No hooks or flies are used during the lesson. Tips on more advanced casting techniques, such as double hauling and slack producing casts will also be covered.
Individuals may book sessions that include roll casting, false casting, and fishing on the lake. Bert will demonstrate the best fly fishing techniques to attract a fish to the artificial fly. Off-site excursions to local streams and rivers are also available with advanced notice.
Overnight guests interested in private casting lessons can call 845.255.1000 and ask for the Recreation Office at extension 2409.
