Never Diet Again! puts you back in charge. Join Nina Smiley, Ph.D., for a program that replaces a deprivation (diet) model with life-enhancing empowerment—teaching you to make mindful choices based on meditation and visualization that lead to a healthy lifestyle and sustained weight loss. Forget about counting calories, managing fat grams, juggling complicated food combinations—so many rules and regulations end up “weighing” you down. Focus instead on welcoming weight loss and wellness, as you leave with a personal plan for skillful new habits.

Mohonk Mountain House is a National Historic Landmark resort located just 90 miles north of New York City. Overnight rates include breakfast, lunch, dinner, afternoon tea and cookies, and most activities, including midweek golf, tennis, hiking, boating, classes in fitness, meditation, and yoga, swimming at our beach and indoor heated pool, and use of the comprehensive fitness center in our Spa wing.

Friday, July 8

6:00 p.m.  Session I: Leave Your “Diet” at the Door: Welcome, Overview, and Some New Life Skills
Join Nina Smiley, Ph.D., your coach for the weekend, and receive your journal and wellness workbook. You’ll learn techniques from The Three Minute Meditator that will support your efforts throughout the weekend and you will leave this introductory session with a new understanding of what “hunger” means and some wellness opportunities that will begin at once. We’ll dine together tonight; please arrive at this session dressed to go directly to the Dining Room.

Saturday, July 9

8:00 a.m.  Breakfast on Your Own
and Morning Time for You!

Along with opportunities for insight, you also have opportunities to be as active—or relaxed—as you want to be.  Enjoy a guided hike, a swim in our indoor heated pool, explore the Mohonk Barn Museum, and be sure to check the Daily Activities Schedule for current offerings. Yoga and other fitness classes are available free of charge. A massage or spa treatment can provide a special treat… and simple rest and renewal are always encouraged.

11:30 a.m.  Session II: Small Successes
We’ll meet before lunch and continue our journey. It’s not about diets or deprivation, but about understanding your own patterns. As you become aware of how “mindless” habits can sabotage efforts, you create the opportunity to become mindful and to make skillful choices one moment at a time. You’ll learn how to build “Small Successes™” into healthy new habits.

The way you think affects how you feel and what you do. Yet “self talk” is often invisible to us, even as our lives are deeply shaped by it. Learning to watch the mind offers a powerful intervention and a remarkable opportunity to explore new possibilities. Creating life-enhancing affirmations will also help you move away from self-sabotage, as you begin to use these simple and effective techniques. While compassion for one’s self and others may sound like an unusual component for this program, when the energy that gets tied up in stress, fear, anger, judging, and negativity is softened by compassion it becomes clear that one’s eating behavior is also part of this cycle.

Sunday, July 10

11:00 a.m.  Session III:
Bringing Wellness Home

As the program ends, you’re now ready to bring all these concepts back home. Using techniques learned this weekend, you’ll continue to build healthy new habits that will replace deprivation, dieting, and self-sabotage with skillful, life-enhancing choices one moment at a time. You will leave having created your own Action Plan. Remember: You are the expert on yourself! The plan that you’ve created over the past few days supports a flexible, dynamic, and self-loving approach to living a life that incorporates wellness with sustained weight loss.

Nina Smiley, Ph.D.

NINA SMILEY, Ph.D. graduated from Vassar College, and earned a doctoral degree in psychology from Princeton University. She is co-author of The Three Minute Meditator and the CD Mini-Meditations That Will Enhance Your Life. Nina taught psychology at the University of Maryland and directed public relations at the American Psychological Association. She has studied mindfulness with Jack Kornfield (founder of Spirit Rock Meditation Center), Sharon Salzberg (co-founder of Insight Meditation Society), and others. Nina delights in sharing insights about meditation and wellness.
