Join us for a culinary weekend as we discover a Taste of France with great food, wine, and music from France. Renowned wine expert Kevin Zraly of the Windows on the World Wine School will guide you through an exceptional tasting of some of the top white wines from the Loire Valley and red wines from the Rhone Valley. Also enjoy a cooking demo and tasting from renowned chef Waldy Malouf.

Our 146-year-old Victorian castle resort in the heart of the Hudson Valley rests beside a glacially formed lake surrounded by thousands of acres of pristine wilderness. In winter, discover our open-air ice skating Pavilion and 35 miles of groomed trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing (weather dependent). Many of these activities are included in your overnight rate, as are delicious meals. We also feature an award-winning Spa that offers a variety of treatments, an outdoor heated mineral pool, comprehensive fitness center, and a solarium for relaxation and renewal.

9:00 p.m.  Banda Magda, Musical Performance 
Moving effortlessly from samba to French chanson, from Greek folk tunes to Colombian cumbia and Afro-Peruvian lando, Banda Magda draws inspiration from the best of mid-century pop ballads and cinematic arranging, drawing on the band’s global background and diverse talents. Magda Giannikou returns to Mohonk with arrangements inspired by the glorious countryside of France.


10:00 a.m.  Cooking Demonstration, Tasting, and Book Signing with Waldy Malouf
Join chef and author Waldy Malouf, founder of The Hudson River Club and Waldy’s Wood-Fired Pizza and Penne, as he explores foods from central France. A delicious tasting and book-signing will follow the demonstration.

3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.  Wines of France with Kevin Zraly (followed by Taste of France Reception)
Renowned wine expert Kevin Zraly leads you on a tasting journey through the hills and dales of central and southern France. You’ll taste six different wines as you learn about wine styles and developing your own taste, and discover details about acidity, tannin, oak, and fruit. Kevin leads the way, with stories, myths, and tantalizing tales of French wine.

Note: Pre-registration with overnight reservation is required. There is a $50 per person fee for admittance to the wine tasting and/or the reception which follows. Space is limited. Persons under age 21 may not attend the wine tasting.

After the wine tasting, join Kevin for a reception with a curated menu of French hors d’oeuvre created by Mohonk Mountain House chefs. This is also your chance to purchase a signed copy of Kevin’s bestselling wine book, Windows on the World Complete Wine Course. It's the world’s bestselling wine book and features the latest information about vintages and nearly 300 new wine selections.

with Live Music from Bill's Toupee Band 

This band is a collection of five professional musicians who truly love performing together. They are an energetic band that plays great dance music and performs with a contagious enthusiasm!

Kevin Zraly

Kevin Zraly will celebrate his 40th Anniversary in 2016 as the founder and teacher of the immensely popular Windows on the World Wine School, which has graduated over 30,000 students since its inception. Creator of the famous wine list at Windows on the World (which sold more wine than any restaurant in the world), he also designed the training program for the most knowledgeable wine-service staff in America. Kevin is the author of Kevin Zraly's Windows on the World Complete Wine Course, The Ultimate Wine Companion, Kevin Zraly's Wine Journal, and his Guide to American Wine. In 2011, Kevin was honored with the James Beard Lifetime Achievement Award. Kevin is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Culinary Institute of America. He has been featured in The New York Times, People magazine, The Wall Street Journal, GQ, Newsweek, and USA Today, among others. Banda Magda

Banda Magda, whose debut album was selected by NPR as a Top 10 favorite World Music Album in 2013, bursts with humor and quirky sensibility, powered by an unflagging energy. This group of close musical friends turn founder Magda Giannikou’s songs into engaging romps that have won them a spot with the Carnegie Hall Musical Explorers Series, as well as performances at discerning venues and festivals such as Webster Hall, Irving Plaza, The Kennedy Center, The Jefferson Center, Celebrate Brooklyn, Jazz al Parque, St. Moritz Festival Da Jazz, and the Chicago World Music Festival.

Waldy Malouf

Waldy Malouf started his career as many chefs do: by attending The Culinary Institute of America and traveling and working throughout Europe and the Mediterranean. Back stateside, Malouf found employment in some of New York City’s most respected kitchens, including The Four Seasons, La Côte Basque, The St. Regis Hotel, and La Crémaillière in Banksville, New York. In the early 1990s, Malouf opened The Hudson River Club in lower Manhattan, where he developed a signature cuisine that highlighted the culinary riches of New York State's Hudson River Valley. It served as the inspiration for his first cookbook, The Hudson River Valley Cookbook. Following a highly successful stint at The Rainbow Room, Malouf opened Beacon Restaurant and Bar in midtown Manhattan, which is now celebrating its 10th anniversary.

His next restaurant, Waldy’s Wood Fired Pizza and Penne, also met with great success. Malouf’s consulting firm, Waldy Malouf Hospitality Concepts, Inc., is involved in many projects around the world. Waldy Malouf is also the co-founder of The Windows of Hope Family Relief Fund, aiding restaurant worker’s families that were affected by 9/11.

The Mohonk Culinary Team

The Mohonk Culinary Team has built a national reputation at food competitions around the country.  Our team has won an impressive number of honors and awards at the international Food show in New York City. Eight entries received gold medals, along with two “Judges’ Best” awards. Mohonk chefs have also won numerous “Best of Show” prizes at local competitions.
