The weekend features cooking demonstrations and tastings from Chef Ric Orlando and Mohonk’s Executive Pastry Chef Laura Pessolano. Enjoy an extensive local art exhibition from The Wired Gallery, and music, local spirits, and fun at a Mohonk Barnival! Join Ric Orlando, Food Network CHOPPED CHAMPION and CHOPPED 50K Tournament Round 4 WINNER, as he shares his insights and demonstrates the preparation of this season’s splendid culinary treasure, the potato. Ric's focus is on high quality and taste, the benefits of a sustainable food system, regional food traditions, and a slower and more harmonious rhythm of life. Ric has also appeared on PBS as the host, creator, and writer of “Ric Orlando’s TV Kitchen.”

Ric Orlando, chef and owner of New World Home Cooking Café in Saugerties and New World Bistro Bar in Albany, shows you how to cook with local potatoes. Savor the taste and learn how to make four globally influenced recipes, including the latkes that beat Bobby Flay!

Ric Orlando brings an inspired blend of lust for life, outspoken passion for the flavors and ingredients of the world community, and nationally renowned cooking prowess to his roles as chef, lecturer, author, and media source. 
Ric has been preparing and promoting both global and local food for over 20 years. His recipes and commentary are consistently in demand by the regional media. His tireless work in promoting the products, people, and beauty of the region has made him one of the Hudson Valley’s leading culinary spokespeople.

Laura Pessolano is the Executive Pastry Chef at Mohonk Mountain House. Laura’s love for food and fine pastry began at the tender age of five when her grandparents’ gourmet, five-course, family dinners introduced her to the finer details of balance, flavors, and textures that harmonize to create great meals. After apprenticing at a French pastry café in Massachusetts, Laura moved to New York to study at the renowned New School’s New York Restaurant School. Laura was appointed Executive Pastry Chef at the Museum of Modern Art in New York before consulting for restaurants in the Virgin Islands, Pennsylvania, New York City, Vermont, Maine, Oregon, Belize, and her own bakery in the Berkshires. Winner of multiple national awards and featured in The New York Times, Boston Globe, and NBC’s Today Show, Laura Pessolano now brings her talents to the bakery at Mohonk.

Sevan Melikyan is the director of Wired Gallery in High Falls, New York, an art gallery dedicated to exhibiting works exclusively by local artists. Sevan is a founding member and director of Chagall in High Falls, Inc., and a lecturer on art museums. Born to an Armenian family in Istanbul, Turkey, Sevan grew up in Paris, France where he received a degree in business administration before moving to the U.S. in 1991. From 1997 to 2009, he was marketing and PR director for the Van Cliburn Foundation in Fort Worth, Texas. As a visual artist, Sevan is represented by William Campbell Contemporary Art (Fort Worth, Texas) and his work can be seen at He lives with his wife and son in the same building as his gallery.

Wired Gallery was established in May 2012 with the mission to show works by mid-Hudson Valley artists. It is located at 11 Mohonk Road in High Falls, New York, and is open Saturdays and Sundays from 11-4. John Kirk and Trish Miller have toured as a duo throughout the world since 1988—from the Grand Canyon to Barbados, from Carnegie Hall in New York to the Academy of Culture in St. Petersburg, Russia—playing music and singing in concerts, festivals, and schools, and calling contra and square dances. Many of their music selections are rooted in the local lore of the northeast woodlands. A love of traditional tunes and witty songs are presented with brilliant arrangements using fiddle, guitar, banjo, mandolin, and warm clear vocals. Humorous storytelling, and original and poetic pieces make their shows delightful entertainment for all ages.
