Hiking
  • Hiking at our Hudson Valley resort is elevated to an art form. The sport has grown organically here, and generations of guests have discovered the miles of well-marked trails that thread the Mohonk woodlands.

Transport yourself back in time on 40,000 scenic acres of enchanting forests, mountains, and secluded New York hiking trails located in the Shawngunk Mountains. Come see why the entire Shawangunk region was awarded the distinction of being named "one of Earth's "Last Great Places" by the Nature Conservancy.

Our remarkable New York State hiking trails have graduated levels of difficulty. The more adventurous will enjoy rock scrambles along the network of paths on the cliffs that jut out around the lake. As one of the most distinguished New York State hiking areas, we offer hiking maps to help plan your route.

Naturalist
  • Our staff Naturalist leads nature walks, early morning canoe tours, and bird walks, and is available to answer questions throughout the year.  He is an integral part of our Junior Naturalist program in our Kids’ Club. You are invited to record your observations of the natural world in our nature book.

Guided Nature Hikes
  • Nature is intrinsic to Mohonk Mountain House. Join us for a hike with one of our guides or a naturalist who will introduce you to Mohonk's history, fascinating rock formations, and intriguing wildlife habitats with the majestic beauty of lake-side cliffs, the serenity of the deep blue waters and the endless complexity of forest life.

Early Morning Canoe Tours
  • Explore Lake Mohonk in the morning with our staff Naturalist. Birds, mammals, fish, and reptiles are abundant and active at this hour.

Bird Walks
  • Mohonk’s staff Naturalist offers a variety of bird walks focusing on the diversity of bird life on our mountaintop, including behavior and vocalization. These walks are available year-round and are usually moderate in pace. Binoculars are available.
