Will Shortz’s Wonderful World of Words

Friday November 16 - Sunday November 18, 2012

Description

What do an illusionist who instructs  Woody Harrelson,  the country’s leading “Beatleogist, a Tony-award winning composer, and an expert on endangered alphabets have in common? They’re all presenters at this year’s Wonderful World of Words weekend! New York Times  Crossword Puzzle Editor Will Shortz is our host, along with “Words” founders  Gloria and Larry Rosenthal.  Along with a plethora of puzzles, this weekend includes:

  • David Kwong: Drawing on his talents as a magician and as a crossword puzzle creator, David Kwong  will amaze guests.  He recently designed all the illusions for the forthcoming film Now You See Me, starring Woody Harrelson, Morgan Freeman, and Mark Ruffalo—he personally taught the actors how to perform the magic in the film!
  • Scott Freiman: one of the country’s leading Beatleologists, will deconstruct The Beatles’ lyrics for us— how they were written, what they mean, and why they have such enduring appeal.
  • Greg Pliska: award-winning composer and NPR quizzicist will create another incredible Mohonk Treasure Hunt where teams work together to solve a set of interconnected puzzles and follow the clues hidden throughout the Mountain House.
  • Tim Brooke:  founder and director of the Endangered Alphabets Project, Tim  provides a remarkable visual tour of lost an  disappearing alphabets.

It’s a wonderful Weekend for all those who love language, puzzles,  games and FUN!
